Did you like BonBon? Did you like Cool Me Down? Did you like Hotter Than Hell? If so, this is right up your street. Guilty Pleasure is a particularly fine example of the genre, from Lithuania’s Luke Ra. I’ve not been able to find the name of the guest vocalist, but Luke Ra is the producer and songwriter.
There’s probably an interesting study in the way that this post-dancehall pop sound has spread over Europe over the course of 2016. I’ve now found examples from all corners of the continent and watched the genre mutate while keeping the most important of the base components – a very particular beat and bassline, hemiolas on chiming keyboards and that melody instrument that sounds like a treated vocal sample. It’s a great pop style. I absolutely cannot resist telling you that it’s my guilty pleasure.
